US lead rain-delayed Presidents Cup

The United States continue to lead the
International team by one point at the Presidents
Cup after a rain-hit day two that saw just two
matches completed.
Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley won their
foursomes match 4&3 against Jason Day and Graham
DeLaet to put the US 4½-2½ ahead at Muirfield Village,
Ohio.
But South African duo Brendon de Jonge and Ernie Els
beat Bill Haas and Hunter Mahan 4&3 to reduce the
deficit.
Both teams were up in two of the four matches left out
on the course.
Fading light forced play at the Ryder Cup-style event to
be suspended after heavy rain had caused a delay of
almost three hours.
The unfinished games will be completed on Saturday
when play resumes at 07:35 local time (12:35 BST).
Two of the American pairings are three up, with Tiger
Woods and Matt Kuchar leading South African pair
Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel with six holes to
play in the alternate shot format.
Woods and Kuchar won three of the first nine holes to
go two up and, despite posting a bogey-four on their
final hole of the day, extended their advantage after
Oosthuizen's tee shot landed in water, leading to a
double-bogey five.
Steve Stricker and Jordan Spieth lead Branden Grace
and Richard Sterne by the same margin, having
completed 14 holes.
Stricker and Spieth were one up after seven when rain
took the players off the course and, when they
resumed, the Americans birdied the eighth, 10th and
12th holes to stretch their lead to four.
Grace and Sterne won the 13th and the 14th was
halved before they picked up their balls on the 15th as
darkness descended.
Argentina's Angel Cabrera and Marc Leishman of
Australia hold a one-hole lead over Webb Simpson and
Brandt Snedeker with five holes to play.
Masters champion Adam Scott and his Japanese playing
partner Hideki Matsuyama hold a commanding four-
hole lead with six to play over Jason Dufner and Zach
Johnson in the other unfinished match.
In the completed matches, Mickelson and Bradley lost
the opening hole but hit back with a run of seven
birdies in eight holes from the fifth to go six up with six
to play.
Australian Day and Canadian playing partner DeLaet
and won the next two holes but the 15th was halved in
pars, enough to give the home side the win.
Els and De Jonge won three of the first five holes in
their match as they comfortably saw off Haas and
Mahan, who failed to win a hole.
Saturday's foursomes matches (to finish - all times
BST):
12:35: Jordan Spieth & Steve Stricker 3up (after 14
holes) v Branden Grace (SA) & Richard Sterne (SA)
12:35: Webb Simpson & Brandt Snedeker v 1up (13)
