Samsung Flexible Display Phone Release Date Set: Samsung Galaxy Round Curved Display Device Announced, To Launch Oct. 10

Samsung has now announced a new member of the
Galaxy family with the Samsung Galaxy Round ,
which sports the world's first commercialized full
HD Super AMOLED flexible display.
The Galaxy Round quickly follows the release of the
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and is similar to the
popular phablet in terms of dimensions (151 x 79 x
7.9mm) and other specs. The primary feature on
the Galaxy Round is its 5.7-inch 1080p display,
which has a prominent vertical curve. Samsung has
long been developing its Youm technology , which it
introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in
January. Very early Galaxy Note 3 rumors
suggested that the device would feature a flexible
display; it appears that notion was not far off.
Other specs include a 2.3GHz quad-core processor,
32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM, a 13-
megapixel main camera and 2-megapixel front
camera and a 2800mAh battery. We see full
connectivity on the Samsung Galaxy Round,
including LTE-A at 150mbps, as well as a host of
features that have become known by the Galaxy
Note 2 and Galaxy S4. Running the Android 4.3
Jelly Bean operating system, the Galaxy Round also
has its own special software features, which cater to
its curved display. The “Roll Effect” allows users to
view such information as date, time, missed calls
and battery level by simple tilting the device. The
“Gravity Effect” and “Bounce UX” are centered on
music with the rocking motion allowing users to
prompt their music players and control playback
from one track to the next.
In addition, we see the same leather-and-stitch-
inspired design that was introduced on the Samsung
Galaxy Note 3. One thing notably missing from the
Galaxy Round is S-Pen compatibility, so currently it
remains uncertain if the Round will feature the
same Air Command software features like the Note
3. It does; however, feature the one-handed
operation modes that are commonplace on
Samsung’s large-screen devices.

Currently, the Samsung Galaxy Round will only be
available in South Korea and will launch Oct. 10 on
the SK Telecom network. Available in the "Luxury
Brown" color option, the Galaxy Round will sell for
1.09 million won (about $1,015). There has been no
word on if or when the Galaxy Round will become
available for other markets; however, other color
options are expected to release in the future.
