The fifth round of Liga action brought 27 goals (despite
three goalless games), with wins for Barcelona, Real
Madrid, Atletico, Osasuna, Valencia and Espanyol.
Barca stay top after thrashing Rayo Vallecano 4-0 in
Madrid, while Atletico are the only other team in the
Primera Division with a perfect record, thanks to their
2-0 win at Valladolid. Real remain in third after
downing Getafe 4-1.
Hot on the heels of the midweek matches in Round 6 of
La Liga, Goal takes a look at the standout performers
from the weekend games.
In goal, Víctor Valdes continued his remarkable recent
form with several stunning saves, including a second
penalty stop in as many games.
At the back, Chica impressed for Betis both in defence
and attack as the Seville-based side drew 0-0 with
Granada in an Andalusian derby. Pepe, meanwhile, is
returning to his best for Real Madrid and also scored an
important goal after Getafe had taken the lead at the
Santiago Bernabeu. Finally, Javi Manquillo took
advantage of Diego Simeone's rotations and shone for
Atletico at Valladolid.
In midfield, Cesc Fabregas and Isco were on target for
Barcelona and Madrid, respectvely, while Raul Garcia
set Atletico on their way to victory with the opening
goal in a fine display at Valladolid. Victor Sanchez
completes the midfield four following his double in the
3-2 win over Athletic Bilbao, which included a
wonderful first from distance.
Further forward, Cristiano Ronaldo finished the week
which had started with his contract renewal and
continued with a hat-trick at Galatasaray by adding two
more goals at home to Getafe. Pedro bagged his first
hat-trick for Barcelona in the 4-0 win at Rayo, while
Jonas brought some respite to troubled Valencia with a
double in the 3-1 success against Sevilla at Mestalla.
